How the quantities are worked out
Each bed’s area is multiplied by the depth you choose to get a volume. Switching between metric and imperial converts your measurements instead of resetting them. Volumes use 1 cubic foot = 28.3168 litres, 1 cubic yard = 764.555 litres and 1 cubic metre = 1,000 litres.
For bagged soil or mulch, the tool adds up every included bed first and rounds up once to whole bags. For bulk delivery the quantity stays fractional, because bulk is sold and spread by volume. Your optional allowance, for example for settling or uneven ground, is added before rounding and reported separately from the extra material that whole bags leave over.
Soil and mulch share the same beds, so a bed measured once can receive soil, mulch or both. Quantities describe the material to place; they are not a delivery schedule, a purchase recommendation or an estimate of cost.
